The ALROSA Diamond Inspector was purchased by myself for use within the BSc (Hons) Gemmology and Jewellery Studies degree programme at Birmingham City University approximately 1 year ago, and since that time, it has proved invaluable, both in it's primary role as a screening tool for synthetic diamonds, and as a teaching aid for advanced diamond analysis.
It's ease of use has proved popular with research students, who have used this as a screening tool not only for loose diamonds, but also for set jewellery, testing colourless stones in sizes from 3ct down to 1pt.
The accuracy of the machine is impressive – whether testing natural or synthetic diamonds, treated diamonds, or any of the extensive range of simulants, the Inspector correctly identified the appropriate result category.
This has proved to be a very useful, and versatile testing tool, and since its purchase, has seen use at several conference workshops, and presentations to gemmologists, valuers, and jewellers, all of whom have been suitably impressed by its performance. The Diamond Inspector will continue to be used as part of my suite of analytical tools on the degree programme, and for students in general.
